THE BEST AND THE REST
When I was growing up, my uncle told me that, there are ONLY two ways to classify success or successful people in life:
1. The BEST and
2. The REST!
I was curious and asked him to expatiate further. He said, the best always get the gold in the game of life; others get silver and bronze. He said that, two contestants cannot win gold at the same time. The rest are best described as a crowd of aspirants in the game of success. He counselled me to always strive to be the best in whatever I do and refuse to join the rest. He gave me a good example of Apostle Paul who became the best even though he was not among the core disciples of Jesus Christ. He wrote more than half of the Gospel in the New Testament. He came from behind and still overtook and surpassed those who sleep and wake up with Jesus.
The unique characteristics of the people who belongs to the class of the BEST in what they do is that they are:
- B: Brave and bold
- E: Excellent and enduring
- S: Selfless and sacrificial
- T: Tactful and teachable
On the other hand, the unique characteristics of the people who belongs to the class of the REST in what they do is that they are:
- R: Reckless and rowdy
- E: Elusive- Hard to pin down and evasive.
- S: Sanctimonious-Self-righteous; hypocritically moralistic
- T: Tactless- Insensitive or blunt.
To be the best is to continually manifest superior quality or performance above others, not minding the obstacles and challenges. In whatever you do in life, strive to be the BEST and don’t join the REST.
